In some Muslim-majority countries, there are official institutions responsible for collecting and distributing zakat to ensure it reaches those in need.
Apart from the annual zakat, there is another form of obligatory charity known as Zakat al-Fitr. It is given during the month of Ramadan and is intended to aid the poor so that they can enjoy the festivities of Eid-ul-Fitr.
Zakat is given to specific categories of people, such as the poor, needy, debtors, travellers, and those employed to collect and distribute zakat. These categories are mentioned in the Quran (9:60).
In certain countries, non-Muslim governments recognize the importance of zakat and allow Muslims to practice it within their legal frameworks.
Remember, zakat is an important act of worship and charity forMuslims, promoting empathy and compassion for those less fortunate in the community.
Zakat is believed to purify a person's wealth and soul. By giving a portion of their wealth to those in need, Muslims acknowledge that their material possessions are a trust from Allah and that they should be used in a just and responsible manner.
Zakat not only benefits the recipients but also brings social cohesion and a sense of responsibility among the Muslim community.
Zakat is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. It is an obligatory act of worship and a form of charitable giving that aims to purify one's wealth and help those in need.
The word "zakat" is derived from the Arabic root word"Zaka," which means to purify, grow, or increase.
Zakat plays a crucial role in wealth distribution and poverty alleviation. It helps reduce the gap between the rich and the poor in Muslim communities.
The standard zakat rate is 2.5% of a person's eligible wealth. It is calculated based on various assets, including cash, gold, silver, and business assets after deducting essential expenses and debts.
Muslims worldwide participate in the giving of zakat, making it one of the most significant charitable practices globally.
While zakat is a mandatory obligation, Sadaqah (voluntary charity) is highly encouraged in Islam. Sadaqah has no fixed amount or guidelines and can be given at any time and in any form.
Our call centre will be happy to assist you with your questions, including information about our charity's programs and initiatives, assisting with volunteer registration, accepting donations, and addressing general inquiries related to the charity's mission and activities.
